Questions about God and Science

When we come to the theme of science and faith, most of the Czech population (and I think that our country is no exception) has a deep-seated opinion that can be summed up in the phrase, 'science has overthrown the existence of God'. Many scientists have even affirmed that the only source of truth is science and that anything else is superstition, or that faith is just an opinion. Apparently, if we want to believe in God, we must put aside logic and critical thinking and close our eyes to the evidence which disproves our faith. If someone speaks openly and publicly about his/her faith, it is not rare that he/she is labelled as a backward, unscientific person who is against advancing knowledge and rejects progress. On the other hand, as long as something is proclaimed 'scientific', people perceive it to be a magic formula which gives the statement the hallmark of credibility.

In the following questions, I would like, therefore, to focus on the area of scientific research in more detail. I would also like to explain why I think that science does not contradict the Christian faith, but directly supports it and is in complete harmony with it. There is a relationship between science and faith and the theory of evolution. The theory of evolution is deeply rooted in the whole of western society and has had a great influence on the general rejection of faith in God in these societies. Therefore, I want to give much attention to this theory.

I would also like to add that the following answers are also interconnected to people's reactions to the question about the origin of life and the theory of evolution. This is not a thorough study of the various possibilities of how a certain phenomenon or issue may be explained. The text tries to react primarily to a specific question or doubt hidden within that specific question. The goal is to show:

  1. a rational supposition of the existence of an intelligent creator of the world and life.
  2. the nonsense of the assertions of evolution that are used as 'proof' of the 'only correct and thousand times substantiated' theory (and which, mistakenly in many cases, evokes in people a pointlessness or rejection of the existence of God).

Although the theory of evolution is, by definition, about the process of the development of life from something that is already living, I will, above all, be focusing on evolution as a whole unit. Therefore, from a general view, it will include the origin of life. That is to say, if there isn't life, there can be nothing to say about evolution.
